Several SESC staff members attended the KDE–Cognia Continuous Improvement Summit on September 22–23 at the Central Bank Center in Lexington. Participants included Rhonda Bryant, Karla Johnson (both pictured), Kay Dixon, and Renee Hibbard. The summit gathered educators and leaders from across Kentucky to exchange effective practices aimed at strengthening organizational systems and improving student outcomes.

“Continuous improvement is more than a plan on paper—it’s the daily habits that move results for students,” said Kay Dixon, SESC Executive Director.

Renee Hibbard, SESC Director of Innovation, added, “Our team valued the opportunity to learn, collaborate, and bring back practical strategies our districts can use this school year.”

Throughout the summit, SESC staff engaged in sessions on topics such as:

Using Student Data to Drive Responsive Differentiation

Encouraging Authentic Teacher Talk through Instructional Roundtables

Local Accountability Guide Workshop

Using Data Cycles to Drive Instruction and Interventions

Advancing Teacher Leadership and Coaching Practices

…and more

SESC remains committed to partnering with districts to expand capacity, enhance teaching and learning, and provide high-quality services that are both cost-effective and student-centered.

We all want deep learning in our classrooms—but what’s getting in the way? Educators across Kentucky consistently point to three challenges:
· Students aren’t fully engaged
· Effort is inconsistent
· Learners struggle to take ownership of their progress

For decades, we've turned to new programs and shifting initiatives to address these concerns. But what if the keys to deeper learning have been right in front of us all along—in the Kentucky Adapted Framework for Teaching? Join Rick Fisher, a long-time Kentucky Educator, for an engaging and interactive session where he’ll share practical, proven strategies to support teacher development and growth through Kentucky’s exemplary teaching criteria.

In this session, you will: ✅ Learn how to create a common language for deeper learning to help guide staff development. ✅ Explore how to move from Accomplished to Exemplary using the Kentucky Adapted Framework for Teaching. ✅ Discover a set of simple, ready-to-use tools that make exemplary instruction accessible to every teacher. ✅ See how to ground boxed curriculum and personal lesson designs in the science of deeper learning to strengthen Tier 1 instruction—and beyond. Let’s move past the cycle of new initiatives and focus on what truly works. Register here to attend: bit.ly/3H6x4VT
