Getting to Know the KAS for Reading and Writing for SESC Administrators and Leaders.

KDE Academic Program Consultants Leigh Turner and Tina Withorn present a 90-minute virtual session designed to equip district leaders, principals, and instructional coaches to confidently speak to the evidence that drove the revisions of the KAS for Reading and Writing. We will analyze the front matter, overviews, and revised standards and make connections to daily reading and writing instruction in every classroom. This learning will support you in facilitating productive coaching conversations with K-12 teachers to align standards to practice.
Objectives:

  • Analyze how the evidence calls for the bundling of standards, skills, and strategies into robust learning progressions.

  • Examine how the standards require reading and writing to be viewed as reciprocal processes and prioritize a text- centered instructional model.
