April Brock and Lennie Feltner had the honor of presenting six sessions packed with strategies, tools, and resources to support students with disabilities. Here's what we covered:
🔹 Session 1: Specially Designed Instruction (SDI)
Educators explored what SDI is, why it matters, and how it differs from SAS, accommodations, and modifications. We also dug into explicit instruction, high-leverage practices, and SDI toolkits in math and literacy.
🔹 Session 2: Co-Teaching in Action
We defined co-teaching and its impact on all learners, examined all six co-teaching models, and discussed strategies for collaborative planning and lesson design. We also explored how SDI fits into co-teaching.
🔹 Session 3: AI for Special Education
Participants learned the basics of AI, ethical considerations, and how to use AI tools to support accommodations, IEP development, scaffolding, behavior supports, and progress monitoring.
🔹 Session 4: ARC Meeting Basics
We covered the language of special education, legal requirements, ARC membership roles, chairperson responsibilities, parent involvement, and how to avoid common pitfalls in decision-making.
🔹 Session 5: Determining Baseline
This session focused on gathering and using baseline data to drive SDI and meaningful progress monitoring.
🔹 Session 6: Indicator 13 – Transition Compliance
We reviewed compliance requirements, key components of transition planning, and how to ensure students’ postsecondary goals are addressed in the IEP.
👏 Huge thanks to Harlan County for your enthusiasm, dedication, and commitment to improving outcomes for students with disabilities. It was a privilege to learn and grow alongside you all! 💙

On July 17–18, Tori St. Thomas and Annie Conner led an unforgettable *Adventure Buckets* training for teachers of students with complex needs—and WOW, did they rise to the challenge!
Each day kicked off with standards deconstruction, then took a deep dive into story-based lessons tailored to Where the Wild Things Are, by Maurice Sendak for elementary and Holes by Louis Sachar for middle/high school.
🦁 Wild things roared…
🕳️ Holes were dug…
And just when our secondary teachers thought it was just a regular PD… a surprise guest straight out of Camp Green Lake made an unforgettable appearance!
These teachers are walking away with ready-to-use resources, aligned lessons, and a renewed sense of purpose. What an adventure! 🌟🪣💪
